Casual Conversations

Hello,
There is a story in the Bible, and whether we are a person of faith or not, there is
such a simple and valuable lesson we can all learn.

In the book of Ruth, Chapter 1 and verses 6-22 contain a truth that is so
practical yet we see that it can change someone’s life. I think most of us want
to be change agents for the betterment of others. The key passage I want to
mention is
“when Naomi heard in Moab that the Lord had come to the aid of his
people by providing food for them, she and her daughters in law prepared
to return there”

We are not told that she was actually a part of a conversation, she somehow
heard some news that had the potential to change her world.
She was an older woman, had lost her husband and 2 sons and now is doing life
alone with her daughters in law.
She made plans because of the news she heard, she decided to return from
Moab to her home. How could she ever know the amazing future she was
stepping into.
I often think of the many casual conversations we all have and the many times
we don’t realize someone maybe listening to our words.
I heard it said once, if we are going to gossip, gossip good news. Just like the
person Naomi heard, we can change the course of a life by speaking
encouraging and affirming words. There is hope today, there is always the
possibility of peace in troubled times, there is always a place to go forward to for
everyone and so many need to hear it.

As we walk through life, our work, the stores we visit, gatherings we attend, may
our words that others overhear bring good news to them.
If someone listened to my conversations, would they be strengthened in life or
become more hopeless.

Behind so many smiles there is brokenness, loneliness and hopelessness.
Words are powerful and go straight to the heart, they don’t see pretense,
they don’t hear surface excuses.

We can be a light in the world, we may never know whose life we have
influenced but our conversations can be a highway of hope for others.

Much love,
Adrienne Evans

  1. This is a very good reflection. It is my new favorite. I had many conversations today and I believe this blog made me more aware of the words we speak, and can see that in the way people engaged more.
